Cody does this obsessively when we go out and it used to annoy me but now I let him go as long as he wants. It's his way of socializing. In an article I read, the author referred to it as their form of reading the newspaper and it's actually cruel to not allow them to sniff around and see what's been going on in their neighborhood. I think of it like Cody is checking his email. He reads a ton and sends out a few and then we go inside :)

Doggy Email
So I have learned quite a bit about dog communication from Inside of a Dog by Alexandra Horowitz and from browsing the internet. It's amazing what they are doing when they go out for a walk that most people don't even notice. Apparently, they are leaving messages for other dogs in the neighborhood. Every time they lift their leg on something they leave behind their scent and a message that they were there. A tree, for example can have countless messages about who has been there and when they stopped by. They can tell all of this info from smelling it and they have preferences for certain objects and certain other dogs.

Shabby Chic... emphasis on chic
I met with an amazing florist yesterday that pretty much understands the vision in my head better then I do. I'm sticking with neutral colors: blush, champagne, ivory, grey.

Crafty Christmas
In order to save money and being newly inspired by Pinterest I decided to make all (most) of my Christmas gifts and decor this year. Also I needed some fun crafts to do with the kids at work so I was already looking things up online. These are some of my first attempts...
Some turned out OK enough to give as presents but I'm hoping to be better at crafting by next year :) The one thing that turned out amazingly cool was the window cling snowflakes and this picture does them no justice. I hung them all over my kitchen window. They are really simple and only require puffy paint and a ziplock bag. Some of my younger kids had some trouble with this craft but the 9 and 10 year olds could easily do it and loved peeling them off the bags when they were dry the next day.

Good Book
My step mom gave me this book a few months ago and it has been sitting on my night stand, forgotten. I picked it up last night, needing some insight into my Cody, and I have not been able to put it down. I'm not even half way through and I already highly recommend!
This is a must-read for any dog lover.
