For those of us born and raised in southern California, extreme temperatures are not something well tolerated. Basically we are total wimps. I'm the first to admit it. But in our defense, because the weather is supposed to be so mild here all of the time, we are ill equipped for things like heat waves and hail storms. These past 2 weeks (felt like months) have been extremely hot and humid. I'm talking 90 at the beach. Our houses at the beach do not have AC. If you are unfortunate enough to have your bedroom upstairs, like us, you toss and turn all night with a fan blowing in your face.
Now Kyle and I are one thing, but my baby boy with all that fur.....well I had times where I thought he was going to die. I seriously was checking to see if he was breathing. Extreme? Yes. Overprotective? Absolutely. Cody is my first dog; I'm a little paranoid.
He just did this. All day and all night. :(
But I discovered something that brightened his day, just a little. Frosty Paws. Doggie Ice Cream. It's not too unhealthy for them and he LOVES it.
Bonus- shockingly it doesn't make him throw up, like basically everything else Cody eats besides his regular dog food.

Our family in SoCal have been complaining about the heat too! I hope it starts cooling down soon. I lived in San Diego for 7 years (all without A/C) and twice on moving day it was more than a 100 degrees! Ugh.
I'll have to try those ice-cream bites for Penelope. She loves ice so I bet she'll love ice-cream! Oh and I don't think your checking if Cody's still breathing is extreme or over-protective, that's just what normal dog parents do, right? Right?
PS. At the risk of leaving an insanely long comment on your blog, I have to ask, where did you find those ice-cream bites?
I got them at Albertsons in the pet aisle. They had a special little freezer set up. I normally shop at Ralphs and I have never seen them there. The box come with 4 little cups and they aren't messy (and trust me my boy can make a mess of anything). I get the original flavor also just because he has a pretty sensitive tummy.
p.s. How's the east coast? Was it a culture shock? It's so gorgeous over there.
I'll have to look out for them. We don't have either Ralphs or Albertsons here. Penny has a sensitive stomach too, so thanks for that tip!
I'm working from home at the moment, so the culture shock hasn't been too bad. I do really love the feeling of history I get when driving around though!
